New Captains drive in
The Drive In ceremony went ahead on Saturday 19th December in far from normal circumstances. Doug Cormack and Georgina Foxwell were appointed joint Captains on a damp December morning which attracted a good turnout of members to support the new Captains, despite the normal competition being cancelled.
Unfortunately the full traditional ceremony and celebration in the clubhouse could not happen this year due to Covid safety restrictions and the weather closing the course. The traditional handover of Captaincy was performed by Jack Whitehouse, our outgoing Club Captain, passing the hickory shafted vintage wood drivers and the safe keeping of the Club over to the incoming Captains.
An outwardly calm Georgina took to the tee first and struck a perfect straight drive to put the pressure on Doug. The nerves were soon dispelled as he got a good drive away as well.
Both new Captains said how they were thrilled and very honoured to be Club and Ladies’ Captain and look forward to representing the Club and to enjoying their year.
The Club wishes the best of luck to Doug and Georgina for 2021. Covid 19 is still likely to impact on their early plans, as it has for Jack and Chris this year, but hope to return to some normality by the start of the golf season.
Tributes were paid at the recent AGM to the Past Captains. They were praised for their ingenuity and resilience in coping with the unpredictability of 2020.
The Captains have announced that their charity this year will be ACORNS Children’s Hospice.
