The West Midlands League Team
Any member playing off a handicap of 5 to 15 is welcome to join this very competitive team captained by Paul Walters.
West Midlands League Team 2019
After a hugely successful year in 2018 Mark Watson has stepped down as Captain of the
West Midlands League team and Rod Hazlewood has asked me to pick up from where Mark left off last year. Paul Walters has agreed to be Captain for the season. Not only was Mark a great Captain, player and organiser he even cooked the after meal match on one occasion! Big shoes boots to fill after leading the team to success in 2018 for the first time in many years. We will give it our best, representing Fulford Heath and continuing to uphold our tradition of being fair and friendly on and off the course whatever the results.
The current matches schedule is as follows:
Tuesday 30th April Ladbrook Park (A) 4.15pm
Thursday 9th May Kings Norton (H) 4.00pm
Tuesday 14th May Redditch (A) 4.00pm.

Anyone interested in being considered for the team please speak with Paul
(maximum handicap 15). All welcome.
We will be organising warm up matches against
other clubs and/or against other Fulford Teams in March/April.
Finally huge thanks to Andy Peach whose company N-CAP flooring will continue to
sponsor the team clothing in 2019 and to Carl Healy whose company has also agreed to be a team clothing sponsor for 2019.
We are looking forward to a great year for Fulford Heath Golf Club again in the West Midlands League.

2019 Match Reports
30th April – Ladbrook Park Away
This was the opening fixture of the 2019 West Midlands League campaign, a competition which Fulford look to retain following last year’s success. Unfortunately the team succumbed to a 4-0 defeat away at Ladbrook Park GC.
It was the first outing under new leadership in Dave Parker, who takes over the captaincy reigns from Mark Watson. The matches were closer than the result suggests and special mention must go to Tom Marriott who played the majority of his game on his own following an injury to his partner, Jim McMahon, early on in the round.
Thanks go to Ladbrook Park for hosting; the course and hospitality were fantastic as always and we look forward to seeing you in the reverse fixture later in the year. This week sees the visit of Kings Norton GC and gives the team a chance to bounce back with their first home fixture of 2019.
The West Midlands League group fixtures are drawing to a close and so far we have won 2, drawn 3 and lost 2 which leaves us joint 4th in the table. It has been a tough season in an extremely competitive zone but with a strong finish in our 3 remaining fixtures against Shirley, Ladbrook and Bromsgrove we are still in a position to qualify for the knockout stages. Thanks to all the players in the squad for their ongoing support of the team.
Despite a very strong finish to the season, winning 3 of our last 4 matches, the Fulford Heath West Midlands League team fell short of qualification for the knockout phase of the event by a single point.
Disappointing for us but we wish Shirley and Redditch GC the best of luck as they progress to the finals as group winners and runners up respectively. Zone E has always been highly competitive and this year was no exception. We had a strong squad but we had a slow start to the campaign along with with a few injuries which cost us in the end.
Thanks to all of the players who were involved. Great to see some established players, some old faces coming back into the team and some new members involved too. Next year Paul Walters will take over as Captain and we wish him and the squad all the best. We will send a strong team to the Davenport Salver in early September held at Ladbrook Park and as holders we look forward to hosting the West Midlands League grand final later that month. Thanks to everyone involved.
