The combination of a challenging but fair course and camaraderie at the 19th hole make Fulford a good choice for many men
There are numerous reasons for joining the Men’s Section at Fulford Heath.
The course is both interesting and challenging requiring good course management. The beauty of Fulford is that each hole is different requiring every golfer to think their way around, choosing a different strategy for each difficulty that the course presents.
The designer obviously thought it would be beneficial to tempt the unwary golfer with a relativity easy 1st hole which lures you into thinking that it’s not as tough as it becomes with the 2nd tempting the unwary to go straight for the green but just out of site is water or stream waiting to ruin your card before you’ve got started.
When the course has served up most of it’s challenges it presents it’s signature hole, the 16th. Here awaits the lake to receive any shot that isn’t positive and a green well above your starting point.
There is no need to book a tee time (except for prestigious competitions such as the Club Championship), all you need to do is just turn up and play. If the first tee is busy then going off the tenth is always an option.
The men’s section runs a variety of competitions throughout the year. These include regular medals and stablefords and knockout competitions as well as Board competitions for trophies donated by past members.
The men organise what is called the ‘Fiddle’ every week which all including newcomers are welcome to join and this is followed by much banter in the bar afterwards. A superb way to get to know other members.
You will always receive a warm welcome at Fulford whether you simply want to play social golf, team golf or enter the Club competitions. The Club has a very special reputation for welcoming all into the Fulford family whether you are young or slightly older.
